I'm the biggest fan in the world of the Megasquirt for converting carbs to injection, or fitting a non standard engine. But the Toyota ECU is actually pretty good.
There are some hacked ECUs and addon boards for the standard Toyota one. They are good in being able to extend the fuel mapping, but the changes aren't as easy to use as the E-Manage, it has a lot more precission in the mapping.
The Power FC is another good mappable ECU, but it mainly of use with a REV3 MR2 turbo, or an ST205, because it uses Map sensors instead of the AFM. There was an officially modified Power FC sold by another company for the Rev 2 MR2 turbo that should work with the ST185, but when the engine is concerned, I don't take chances.
Well, have a search see if you can find anything about G-Force ECU upgrade they apperently are modified standard ECUs for various cars.
Blitz badge them as their own too.
just asked at a jap meet last night, i could get an e-manage for £100 but i think i'm going to hold out and save for the apexi power FC, the apexi power fc is a full ECU replacement! it can be programmed on the dyno with the comander from inside the car and settings ect can be changed as and when needed. i think it can also save different settings too, so you could set the car up to run nice on the road and squeeze a bit more power for the track or something.
i can get one fitted and set up for around £700 notes so gonna hold out for that. e-manage is just a piggy back so i'm limited by my ECU. stand alone has to rule over piggy back surely.
i'm going down the power FC route one day. a few at the MR2 club have had them and a guy i know who's doing a group by on them said it's not to hard to get them to fit a rev2 turbo. i'll probably look into it next year so will keep you posted.

- just doesn't.
If a good base map is available with the power FC and its a direct swap then is a good idea. However I dont believe ever that a hand held commander is anywhere near as capable as a laptop. :) BTW you wont get an emanage that cheap with all the bits you may need its likely to be nearer £300 or so.
Ill take a look you never know :) cheers,
You can use a Power FC with a laptop. Problem is the program is in Japanese. I personally would go a Motec. Much much better ECU.

Crikey. You want to get shut and upgrade to a newer model with better economy. I believe you can get some good deals on imports these days.
well i'd get it mapped at Thor and i think they have a jap guy which may helped map it :)
Thor are good. they do a fair bit of work for GT4 club members.
I think it was Thor who mapped the GT4 I posted the specs of.
