You could run it on alcohol for a bit? The bugs will be too pissed to multiply so they will die out.

Is this the same one that was in the VMCC journal last year?

The bugs don't live in petrol. The bugs live in the water/petrol interface of contaminated petrol. They 'breathe' oxygen from the water, 'eat' petrol and 'crap' slime. So you need to clean the fuel system and dry it thoroughly and then prevent water collecting in the tank and carb. Drain tank and swill with methanol - don't get it on the paint! Strip carb and petrol feed and again finish off with a dip in methanol. You need to ask some Vintage or Speedway racers to obtain a source of Methanol. If you live anywhere near Burton on Trent I can give you some.

Stop water getting in the tank! How are you getting water in the tank? Don't blame the petrol companies! If you put the bike away for weeks on end in a damp shed or garage that gets warm in daytime and cold at night it will vent petrol vapor in the day and suck moist air in at night. The moisture condenses in the tank and collects at the bottom of the tank - next stop the float bowl. Your shed needs better ventilation or a heater that does not produce water vapor - don't use a room vented gas or paraffin appliance for heating. Don't put the bike away wet.

Alternative is to drain the tank and carb after every use (or shortly after 2-3 days) and put the petrol in something that will use it. Leave float bowl off and tap open. Buy fresh petrol every time you use the bike.

Or just get on your bike and ride it more often, not just to the monthly VMCC section meeting.
