Rebore prices

Jan 03, 2005 10 Replies

I'm in the market for a rebore, only one size up ".30" (that's in "thou" to you youngsters ;) I've just rung my normal machinist co. for a price, £40+vat, plus another £10-15 for an acid dip. I know it seems weird, but that sound cheap to me, too cheap ?

Cheers, Tone

Not sure if will help you much but I had a quote of £85+vat last week to bore a block from 81mm to 83mm. That was from a specialist engine builder so they probably change a bit more.

that's what i paif for my crossflow block last year.

Perhaps it's because it's so rare these days they're glad to get the work for the machine? And perhaps the profit from supplying the pistons?

IIRC, the last time I had an engine re-bored it was 3 quid a bore. No VAT. Didn't exist then. ;-)

My block was free with a £30 head ;)

sorry, what i meant was that i paid £40+vat to have it rebored.

Right then, so it's not suspiciously cheap then. As I said I've used my local company a fair few times over the years, it's just that I was expecting more and it's not often something turns out to be suprisingly cheap (at least for me :)

Cheers to all who contributed, Tony

Does the price include honing?

Yeah, he specifically mentioned honing being included without any prompting from me.

seems like a good price TBH.

ask to see one he's currently doing?

Mason

I rang around manchester when I got mine done the prices ranged between

40 - 60 for a .030 rebore and crosshatch. still got a dgav with manual choke conversion, and a good inlet manifold, and a few more bits and pieces if you need anything. gonna have an ebay clearout soon.
