1968 trouble

I recently bought a 1968 mustang but have had little time to work on it (in the military). This past weekend I was home for a bit and started doing some work on it. I had been having some trouble with it sputtering out when it got up to the 40-50mph speeds. I initially figured it was "junk" in the gas, but when I opened it up this weekend, I found that the cord connecting the coil to the distributor was loose. Could this be responsible for it "dying out" at the higher speeds and RPMs? I was planning on replacing the fuel tank, but I'm not sure if I'll need to now.

Also, I need to replace the tires. Does anybody have any suggestions on what tires I should go with. Thanks

Did you check the gas filter or gas pump effuciency?

P 195 70 R14 works great on my 68 cougar

Also, you could be sucking air through the rubber hose under the car that connects the gas tank to the fuel line. I'm sure it's all cracked to hell, so replace as a part of regular maintenance
