2004 Cobra Test Drive

Didn't buy that one, but did get another with a $2500 rebate to put it under $30K (not counting tax, license). Oh yeah, 5-spoke chrome wheels. Screaming Yellow.

The problem there is that this dealership is going to act like nothing ever happened. They *might* even put some rubber on the back of it and clean up any damage done by that moron curbing the thing. Then they'll rip someone else off and sell them an abused car without ever mentioning that it was ripped up in front of one of their own. They'll be depositing more negative karma.

I understand that in the world of cars though, it's hard to know if the car that has 20k miles on it has 5k on a road course and 100 miles of dragstrip passes, and every performance car was owned by an older lady who used it as a daily driver, just like my '97 Cobra (though I actually did verify this).

Probably. Heck, chances are that car has seen worse treatment from the stealership's own employees. No doubt every salesman and half the lot boys have gone for a joyride in the thing. But at least that salesman got a major reaming (or fired) for allowing those guys to test drive it without a license.

I sold my '03 Cobra to a Ford dealer. When I sold it, i had 8000 miles on it. According to Carfax, when the car was finally resold, it had

13,000 miles - the dealer took 5,000 miles of fun out of it.

Heh heh - you mean the Little Old Lady from Pasadena traded up from her Super Sock Dodge? ;)

I'd hope that for as many full throttle romps and moronic bake-offs that the car either has or will seen, that didn't do too much damage, but to start running over things, that's just dumb.

I'm sure the car's been driven hard though, and yeah, if I were a lot boy, I'd be dying for a ride too.

The manager/owner probably wanted a different daily car. Must be nice, eh? lol..

This was a woman in her late 40's (I'm 26, so I can say older, though by no means "old").

I always wanted to take my grandmother to the drag strip just to take a picture of her running down the strip. I wanted to show it to every used car salesman that used the "little old lady" line on me. She didn't want to hurt my car though, so she refused. This is the same woman who brought the CRX that she had at the time home, and complained to her husband of a miss. He took it for a ride and found no problem. He questioned her on what the conditions were. 'Well, I was going across the bridge at about 80, and it just felt weak." She also had a turbo 5-speed Shadow for a while.

Ya know the other line I hate? "I just put a new clutch in it...." I think for every 5-speed car I've bought (and there have been plenty), only 2 didn't "have a new clutch." I even had a guy sell me a 1986 Mercury Capri

5.0 5-speed that he owned since new. He told me that he never drove the car hard. He was 16 when he got ahold of this car - his dad bought it for him. It had *no* second gear synchro left. And, of course, it had a new clutch... lol.

The video has to be a total phony, too many things wrong with it...

I especially like how the "salesman" is describing the 2003 Cobra as a

5-speed Manual. Maybe that explains why it's being sold at the Toyota Dealership, it's missing a gear that was fried from all the burnouts!

Exactly! This video is totally contrived -- totally phony. "Why are you guys filming?...Uh, okay". "No driver's license...Uh, okay". "Don't go too fast...Uh, okay". "There goes $1000 worth of tires...Uh, okay". Puhleez.

2003 option, non? Couldn't be that different, I suspect.

Correct. Zinc Yellow was available in 2003; in 2004, it was replaced with Screaming Yellow, a much more mustardy color.

I prefer Screaming over Zinc.. just my own personal preference. It reminds me of the special edition '93 cars, only with a slight bit less orange.

Same here. Zinc Yellow is a little too pale.
