2005 Mustang GT engine - superchargable?

From what you all know of the new 24 valve 4.6 they are putting in the new Mustang GTs, does it sound like it would be superchargable? I realize this may be a grey area. Like if you compare the ?aluminum? 4.6 put in my mustang (1996) vs. the ?iron? 4.6 they beefed up for the current Cobra so it can handle the supercharger better... I also realize compression has a big part to play... How would you compare the new 24 valve 4.6 to these two engines for purposes of supercharging? What things do you think could be done to that new engine to make it more reliable under boost? For that part, maybe it is too new as far as aftermarket parts go? Thanks! My purpose here is that I'm considering between the two following cars, each of which I realize I would have to wait for:

2005 GT Convertible 2006 Cobra Convertible

speaking of the new cobra coming out in ?2006?, are there any final decisions on what kind of engine it will have? Thanks!

You have cast iron and so does the 03/04 Cobra.

It depends on the factory compression ratio. I don't think it will be too long before the major supercharger manufacturers have a 6 - 8 lb. units ready for the new engines. SVT went with an iron block for cost/longevity over the aluminum. It was designed to be factory supercharged, but most think an alumium block would have held up just fine. You can purchase a Cobra and not modify it or buy a GT and supercharge it to Cobra level power for less, but you will not have the other improvements that the Cobra offers without spending close to what the Cobra will cost. If you want the ability to get power numbers like a current modified Cobra out of the new GT you will need to rebuild the bottom end with forged parts. If you just want a fast GT then an '05 with a supercharger should be fine, the Cobra as a package is more than just a supercharged GT. Also, there has been nothing but rumors about what the next SVT Mustang will have under the hood, but most reliable sources say it will be similar to the current engine with a screw type blower which will be under-rated at around 450 horses.

Thanks, Mike! Yeah, I've typically been of the opinion that it is best to pay more and get the factory version and I totally dig that the Cobra has so many more things going for it than a supercharged GT would. Thanks, again, for the info.
