355s,373s or 410s?

I have a 1990 lx 5.0 5-speed with TFS heads, TFS stage 1 cam, TFS Street intake, full exaust, underdrives, cold air and a 190 lph intank pump. The car is mostly street driven. Which gear would be the best for me? I was thinking 410s but I was going to add a 125 shot of nitrous in the future and don't know if that should effect my gear choice.

Gear choice is tough, and is determined by a lot of factors. First off, where does your engine make best power? Then, where do you drive it the most. If it makes best/most efficient power at 3400 rpm's, but you drive mostly at 50-55mph, then 3.73 - 4.10 might be the best choice. If you routinely drive the freeway at

80-89mph, then a 3.55 gear might be better. If all you're after is straight line acceleration, then 4.10 or 4.56 might work better for you. So you have to factor in the cars weight, engine performance, trans type, converter stall speed, tire choice, etc, etc, etc. After that, you just take your best guess and hope you got it close.

Playing around with desktop dyno and dragstripSE is helpful to get a feel for things before you spend money.

Key phrase: "mostly street driven". Get 3.73s.

I agree with Joe. Though I'd shoot even lower. I think 3.55s are plenty. I think 55s would calm it down enough so you can hook up those street tires.

Patrick,

As far as gearing goes, you have your terminology reversed, in a transmission, First gear (4.14 revolutions in for 1 revolution out) is low gear, fourth gear (1 revolution in for 1 revolution out) is high gear. On rear ends the terminology is the same, 3.00 revolutions in for

1 revolution out is a high (Tall) geared rear end, and a 4.10 revolutions in for 1 revolution out is a lower geared rear-end. Thus 4.10's are lower gears, and 3.00's are higher gears...
