98 Mustang GT convertible, 43,000 miles, $12,700, good deal?

My wife has been wanting a convertible mustang for a long time now. She'd be perfectly happy with a 6 cyl but I plan on driving it my fair share too, so I figure a GT is the way to go. I've always wanted on too.

I found the car described above, seems quite nice after iniital inspection and test drive. One problem I noted was the passener side window went part way down and then stopped. The dealer got in the other door, jiggled with the switch a little and then it began working again using either side's controls.

Also, the roof is a little rough looking, no tears or rips, just mottled looking if that makes sense. What's a ball park figure on a replacement?

How much horsepower does the 98 GT have? How are these 4.6 liter engines? Haven't heard anything bad but I haven't really been asking either.

The price seems a little high to me but $12,700 is the lowest they would go. I sure hate the bullshit used car game. The initial figure they bring out is $19,900 - $3000 for a trade - $5000 down payment. Yeah, right buddy.

Learn to GOOGLE =). Shop for yourself for a "ballpark" estimate... sometimes just the fastest way. Anyway.. as far as HP.. my 98 GT coupe is said to push

225rwhp if I remember correctly (iirc). It drives real nice I think... I'm still hunting for a 98 Cobra. Anyway... that seems a bit high also, but who knows.. check kelly blue book & other guides. It doesn't seem overly high, but a little high. Good luck with it!

I believe the 98 had 225hp in the 4.6 GT. It was the 99 and newer that got the big boost in HP to 260. Over all the 4.6 has been a very solid engine. It is possible, the car took a couple unexpected downpours with the top down that affected the window switches. The price seems fair considering the car is free of any major flaws. Milage is low and it is a vert! Work the dealers to the point you are about to walk out. Always works for me and I saved thousands. John

I think 12700 is high unless the car is absolutely perfect. Do a little research on cars.com and autotrader.com. You can get a 96 or

97 Cobra 'vert for what they're asking.

Your going top notice when you start doing market research that the car the way it sits is priced a bit high...Now, if it was a Cobra, and not a GT, it might be worth that type of money.............

you can search on the Ford website... Ford.com click on the blue ford logo.. then search local dealer inventory..then bottom left, search used vehicle inventory enter zip.. go from there.. there are many more options out there than you may realize.. I thought my local dealer was the only option and I found he is just giving me a line of chit when he says he get any lower.. bahh... dave
