AOD 3.73 or 4.10 gear?

I am still trying to decide which gear to put on my 89 GT AOD vert. I keep reading go with a 4.10 for an GT AOD vert, because it's heavy. I understand that. I am worried if a 4.10 will be too much torque! And, I am worried that my gas mileage will take a major dump! I rarely drive this car on a highway over 60 MPH. On the other hand, I am worried that a 3.73 gear won't be a noticeable upgrading from a 3.27 gear. I would really like some suggestions, that might help me make up my mind. Thanks, Howard

unless u have a supercharger and a heavy modified engine I would go with the 4.10's. You wont spin to much tires...espically with a 89 Auto..:-)

Go 4.10's unless your planning on adding a supercharger / nitrous.

Well most people recommend 4.10s or 4.30's for the sn-95 mustangs.

4.10 minimum,or 4.30's and play with tire sizes on the rear, 1 inch increase in tire height is roughly 1/10 gear reduction, there is also a 3.90 gear for the 8.8, add a b&m aod torque converter and have some fun!

I did the 3.27 to 3.73 swap in my 95 and it wasn't very noticeable. About the only really noticeable thing was more noise. lol. Since you have 3.27 I'd go for the 4.10s. You will take a hit on gas mileage on the highway, but town driving may not hurt to bad since it won't have to work so hard to get moving.

You will feel the difference between these gears. And going to 4.10 or lower will eat into your fuel economy.

The choice is yours.

yes, you'll feel a small difference, unless your ass-o-meter is more sensitive than most.

the only thing I noticed was the noise, and a little quicker to the next fill up.

The 3.73 worked find in my 88. That and the 2 1/2 back system really popped the cork on the engine. My mileage went down to 18mph. Make sure you change the speed-o drive gear at the trans to get a true mph reading whatever you choose. Make sure you have the right person "shim" the rear gears or you'll be whinned to death driving it.
