Bought a 01 Gt Convertible today

Well I finally bought a 01 GT Convertible today, firemist red, leather, mach sound, alloy wheels, cold air kit, flowmasters, Auto ( don't really care for that but oh well to late now) nice car, got it for $13,300 it has only one problem, the left rear vent window doesn't work all the time I know how to change the motor it's just getting the panel off without tearing something up it may take some doing. is there anything special I need to know before I try remove the panel? Hidden screws, snaps under something, removal of speaker covers? oh anyone know what a gorilla chipz is? found it stashed under the toneu cover in the trunk.

Hey! Congrats!

If the window works PART of the time try taking the switchout and giving it a good cleaning on the contacts. It might have goo in it or something..

thanks, that's what I thought at first but this one work only intermittently, like this evening right after we got it I tried it for atleast 20 minutes and no go, came home tonight about midnight works just fine now but tomorrow I'll bet you money it's dead. I will try the switch first but I'm almost sure it's a motor.

Those switches can be a bear. I've fiddle with some of them and have been absolutely sure they were clean and functioning and tested them with a meter and still they acted up. A new switch cured my problems as often as a new motor did.

Hey, the important thing is you got one that you like Don't think "Oh man, it's not a Cobra" and all that ]Hell, those of us with Cobras STILL have cars come along every day that make ours look like shit, so what the hell!

Like computers, it may have been new while it was on the assembly line, but by the time it gets to your front door it's obsolete LOL

As far as that motor, ping Musttanguy. Tim's a pretty good source for parts

Can you not just bypass the switch to check the motor?

In order to make the motor go up and down AND in order to have two switches (drivers door and the other door) the switches have to be double pole double throw. It creates a lot of wires running back and forth across the car. If you can get to the right wires and know the color codes you probably could. But it's a lot easier to get to the switch usually then it is to pull the door apart to get to the motor wires. With a new non-master switch only about $13 it's sometimes the easiest first diagnostic. Or if you can borrow a switch just to try it.

i would order a new master switch and have the carporter bring me in the POS ....saves time hint hint

the switch simply swithces power + or - to the two wiresa on the motor check and see if you have power at the passenger switch if yes the mcheck the motor

if not check the master for power if so fix wire if not replace master

master switch usually goes as its the most used very common problem

For whatever it's worth, I have an '00 GT Convertible, and, for the most part, I don't have a problem with leakage in car washes. It definitely leaks if I go through one of the brushless car washes, where water is power-sprayed at the car from all angles. However, when I go to one of the soft-cloth washes, where they have people cleaning the inside and drying the car afterwards, there's no leakage.

Me too Ken. It's the touchless washes that get me.
