Buying a 69 - advice needed

Hey,



I am planning to buy my first Mustang and have laid my eyes especially to '69 model. I'd prefer a FB but I found a 69 hardtop with white deluxe interior, ok condition. The car is a bit tuned (getting full specs next week), it has Mach 1 panels inside, gearbox redone etc. All the papers are available, including every receipt for the work and parts. Also, the history of the car is known since it left San Jose in 69.



I talked to the seller and he already promised I could take the car for a day or two to check the condition with a magnifying glass.



When I get the car in the garage, what things should I check? Any known faults in '69?

Typical Mustang faults: rusted cowl vents, rust at the floorboards under the cowl vents, rust at the lower front portion of the door (can be on the inside and covered up if recently painted), cracked shock towers, rust at the torque boxes and rust starting in the trunk for the rear quarters. If there is a vintage car club in your area, members can refer you to a mechanic/bodyman who knows what to look for.

Rust, rust, rust................After that, the mechanicals would be next............Followed by the overall condition of the car (interior, exterior, etc)...............

Thanks, these are the things I was looking for.

My friend's dad bought a 65 FB from a barn, it was in a bad shape but during

2 years he restored it to a condition so good he even won some prizes. I think I'll ask him to check the car.
