It's sad really. They have a 5.9l engine, a Hemi putting out 340hp with 395lbs of torque and what is the performance they are seeing from it?
0-60 in 6.2 seconds. Why? Because they have INSISTED in putting it in hulking pick up trucks, and bloated, weird looking cars like the 300 and the Magnum, otherwise known as a poor man's Bently wannabee and the pregnant station wagon, resp. Here is an engine that could with a bit of tweaking re-define the state of current normally aspirated muscle cars, and they push it on the yuppies. GM isn't much better. Their "GTO" sales are not great. According to people who attended various auto shows, GM did next to nothing to promote the car, so while people swarmed over the new Ford GT and 2005 Mustang, they ignored the GTO. People are apparently balking at spending $35,000 on a muscled Cavalier. Meanwhile, Mopar Muscle magazine pulled almost 600hp out of a 426cu in crate Hemi Chrysler sells and rates at 465hp. That's the smallest of their
3 crate Hemis.
Some competition for the Mustang from American sources might be interesting at some point.
