Dang odometer broke

Sep 11, 2004 5 Replies

The odometer on my 98 Mustang (Cobra) quit. The trip odometer broke as well. The speedo still works though.

What is likely broken? Can the existing unit be fixed or will it have to be replaced? How do they account for the mileage if they replace the unit?

thanks for the advice

They'll replace the whole motor assembly (or the whole cluster) for the odometer... happened on plenty of these cars. My '97 Cobra did the same thing.

Ford installed a new one and set the mileage to what was on the old one. I had an extended warranty so it only cost the $100 deductible. I don't know what the actual cost might have been.

Thanks for the advice. I will give the dealer a call next week.

I think the actual cost would have been about $732. Replace speedo cluster and speed sensor plus labor. Ouch

That sucks....

So what did you end up doing?

JS

Paid the money and got it fixed... grone
