I have an 88GT 5spd, all stock. I want to make this a very good handling street car with intentions to autocross it. I will take it to the strip on occasion, but this is not my focus for the car. I am not going coil-overs for quite some time, if ever in this sled. (I'll get a more solid car if I ever get near road racing.) This is not a daily driver as well.
I am going to keep the basic stock setup: separate strut/spring up front & 4 link out back. I have all new adj. control arms for the back (Steeda), and new poly bushings for the front incl. new lower control arms & sway bar (Steeda). I want to get new springs all around, but I am not really sure on what spring rates I should look into. I have read 850# up front is pretty good for this car, but a friend says Ford Racing has a 1000#. The car is not going to be used for long cruising, so a harsher ride doesn't bother me if it handles well, but I think a
1000 may be a bit excessive. Any suggestions to rates?
· Shocks I've had suggested are Koni Yellow adj. · New steering rack, pref. a manual high ratio (15:1 vs 18:1). (Flaming River) · I have a 5-lug conversion for it (SN95? - torn off a fox stang that was converted already), but I am holding off until next year when funds will allow that & new wheels.
·At that time I am going to get caster/camber plates. If I get a caster/camber gauge (Longacre sells one) would I be able to set up the front end myself w/o having to go to an alignment shop every time I want to tweak it?
