New tires, and foot in mouth.

Been a while since I posted. Hello again everyone.



I've made a few changes. My Gatorbacks wore out and I put some Kumho Ecsta MX tires all around. At one time I thought I'd remove a major appendage before putting Korean tires on my 'steed. However, after research on treadwear, compound, and traction specs, I couldn't find any better bang for the buck on sticky tires. Granted, I don't expect any more than 10,000 miles out of these gumballs, and the sidewalls aren't nearly as stiff as the Goodyears. These things ARE sticky though. $550 to my door from Tirerack.com



I added more negative camber, and holy crap!! My exit speeds are up nearly 15% on my favorite turns. New specs:



Camber: drivers= -1.25 passenger = -1.00 (up from -.050 on both) Toe: 1/32 in (reduced from 1/16) Caster: +6.00 (unchanged)



So, I stand corrected on the Kumhos. Flame resistant clothing is on.

I had Kumho Ecsta 711s put on the wife's PT Cruiser. They run quieter than the stockers and handle a LOT better. For the price I think they're hard to beat.

No flame resistant clothing needed.

Actually, the flame retardant clothing is only needed when the post is read by those whom I've heckled in the past. Hence foot in mouth. ;)

As a new Mustang owner, and a Kumho employee, I understand the reluctance to go with foreign products. I work in Akron at the Technical Center and that is where the tires are designed and many of the rubber compounds are developed. Our motorsports and off-road people are all past employees of General, Goodyear, etc., so there is a lot of home-grown knowledge going into the tires. I wish there were plans to manufacture in the US, but is isn't likely too soon.

Not trying to spam ,but I think it is hard to get more product for the dollar than Kumho and/or Hankook (except Hankook has less to offer in the performance tires).

I would have to agree. Before I put the Ecsta 711s on the wife's PT I had never even considered Kumho. I decided to try 'em out since it was the wife's ;-) car and I had read a lot of positive reviews about them.

They do tend to "track" pretty easily on grooved or uneven pavement but I figure the handling trade off was worth it.

Aye, and I bought the Hanooks for my 2001 - I couldn't afford the 'big names'. I am quite please with them and they don't seem to follow every rut in the road like the Goodyears did...
