parking brake cable replacement on 97 gt

Aug 11, 2003 1 Replies

I'm wondering what kind of job it is to replace the front parking brake cable on my gt. Somewhere I have a shop manual but I cant seem to find it ... I've done it often enough on other cars but I thought I'd check before I start ripping out the console, etc, only to find out there's something funky about it that will require tools I dont need or whatever. I do know it's the front cable (I can see the frayed ends through the console).

Thanks mark

You will have to pull the center console and the two bolts holding the E-brake assembly to the tunnel. You won't need any special tools as your basic hand tools will work fine. You will need to wind and hold (nail works) the spring for the automatic tensioner. It should be pretty easy to see whats needed once its pulled. If you have any problems locating the screws (screws under square rubber pieces on the top of the center console compartment) I can help you out.
