Will going to a lower gear if you only run on an 1/8 mile track give you faster times? I've spoke to some people who have some interesting 1/8 mile times, but I suspect that their car is tuned just for an 1/8 mile. Otherwise it seems that their car would be incredibly fast.

yes a car that is setup just for 1/8 mile will run better 1/8 times than one setup for the 1/4. This is mostly due to gear ratio. Running a very steep gear in an 1/8 mile car is easier because you don't have to worry about running out of steam in only an 1/8 mile.
