Rplacing the oil pump drive

I am in the process of rebuilding a motor from scratch for 1965 FB. I bought a Ford motor sports hardned drive and was woundering how and which direction to place the retainer?

The end with the retainer goes to the top so that the shaft doesn't pull up with the distributor and then fall into the bottom of the pan....
