The Humorous Tire Quiz

Jul 14, 2004 3 Replies

At Duke University, there were four sophomores taking Chemistry and all of them had an A so far. These four friends were so confident that the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have a big party. They had a great time, but after all the hearty partying, they slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Duke until early Monday morning. Rather than taking the final then, they decided that after the final, they would explain to their professor why they missed it. They said that they visited friends but on the way back, had a flat tire. As a result, they missed the final. The professor agreed they could make up the final the next day. The guys were excited and relieved. They studied that night for the exam. He placed them in separate rooms and gave them a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem, worth five points. Cool, they thought! Each one in separate rooms, thought this is going to be easy. Then turned the page. On the second page was written: For 95 points: Which tire?

I swear this is true.. In high school my advanced math teacher gave us an unscheduled test. It was many pages long of tough problems. The first sentence of the test said "read the entire test before beginning". A minute after the test began, I and one other person turned our tests in and left. On the last page, on the last line, the test said, "do not complete any problems, sign your name, place the test on the teachers desk, and leave quietly. You may go home early".

Pity the rest of the class sweating over math problems on a beautiful spring day.

My junior high school teacher did something similar. The test started out telling you to read everything before doing anything. About half way down the page, it said that if you felt you had followed instructions to that point, to say out loud "I Have" then stamp your feet three times. Lots of people did that. Last thing was to do none of the above, sign your name and turn it in.
