*sigH*.. yet another car issue

Now whenever I'm running low RPM's.. if I step on the gas the car sorta stumbles... but it's like a delayed stumble... like it bogs almost... then bolts off real quick like it should. Any ideas what I should look at? I recently replaced all spark plugs & ignition wires with Ford Motorcraft parts. Thanks in advance.

I would start with your mass airflow sensor, take it off and give it a good cleaning. Be sure you have a good clean air filter too. Sounds EXACTLY like what my 95 was doing, took me hundreds of dollars trying to diagnose it. Finally the guy at Jiffy Lube had a look at it. (He's a rodder) and told me what to do.

I bought a new one, but DO try cleaning your first.

Okay...a little memory/mind jogger...when you "get on it", what's the FIRST sensor that tells the computer to wake up?

Hint; it's the one that has the closest connection to your foot.

Hmmmmm?

It may not be the TPS, I thought the later models reported a tps problem but that's the first thing I'd look at

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I suspected the TPS. Reason being... yesterday as I was pulling into TJ Maxx parking lot (girlfriend's break.. bringing her food) I stepped on the clutch & let off the gas.. and my RPM's didn't fall. so I hit the gas... didn't fall.. stuck at 2500rpm (which is the peak of where it raised when I stepped on it)... and then I pushed it up to 3000RPM & it actually started RISING. I immediately thought TPS........ but it didn't do it again. So what should I do? I'll see of Chiltons or Haynes says how to test it. 'preciate it, Backyard Mechanic.

Mike, I will venture a guess as to the possibility of your TPS is going bad. If the engine is stumbling during drive operation while coming to a stop and then accelerating from a complete stop and your engine hesitates it may be the Throttle Position Sensor .

Mike, are you experiencing any engine lope?

Excuse my ignorance... engine lope?

It's when the idle sort of "hunts" up and down and never settles in. My neighbor's lawn mower does it and it bugs the hell out of me.

Nevermind. Car still stumbles at low RPM. I think it's plugs again *sigH*. I'll adjust them Saturday or Sunday. The problem is greatly reduced & I feel like I restored 10hp the car runs so much nicer. Thanks though.

Mike, can you narrow it down for me? Is the engine warmed up? Is the engine loping at idle or while in gear? Didn't you replace all the ignition components several months ago? Are you using any "After Market" igition components MSD, ACCEL? Are you using Air Induct box like K&N? If so when did you last clean the filter? When were the O2 sensors last replaced?

Mr. Ford

Okay, you replaced it. But did you check the voltage?

Reply to
WindsorFox[SS]

It only does it when the engine is warmed up.

Nope. No engine lope (thanks Joe for explaining LOL)

Few months ago, actually. Just ignition wires & spark plugs.. not ignition coil packs.

All Ford Motorcraft parts.

Yes. CAI... cleaned air filter about 3 months ago (approx. 15k miles ago.. guess it's time to clean again).

Last year.

Excuse me for being off topic but,

Do you really put 5000 miles on your car every month or was:

3 months ago (approx. 15k miles ago

just a typo?

For what its worth, I used to have an Aerostar van that would get the hunting/loping idle about every 3000 miles +/- a few hundred. It would straighten itself out when I changed the oil. It was so regular, that I started changing the oil when the hunting idle came back.

Well, I went to OK City today... 3hr drive there, 3hr drive back... I got into town.. decided to step on it b/c the roads were deserted it seemed... the car wasn't hesitating or stumbling anymore... so I stop nearly completely.. put it in 2nd gear @ roughly 15mph (3.73 gears)... go full throttle.. no hesitation. Seems the problem has fixed itself. All I replaced what TPS. Also before.. when I went on the interstate for more than 10 min.. the MIL would come on. It didn't come on this time.. and I was on the interstate for 6 hours.
