90' 300ZX spark knocking on acceleration

When I accelerate on even the slightest highway inclines, my 90' Z car spark knocks. Could this be due to the fact that the vehicle most likely needs a valve job?

Thanks for any info you can provide me with on spark knocking with this particular engine. It's N/A--by the way.

That's go nothing to do with this. Why anyone called this "valves rattling" is beyond me.

Probably a bad load of fuel (You do run premium don't you?) or the ign timing is set wrong.

Sounds like pinging from using low octane fuel.

I purchased the vehicle in July of 1993 with 18,000 miles on it. It was still immaculate at that point. And I can assure you that in a little over

11 years of ownership, I have never, EVER put anything other than premium unleaded fuel in it. Not one single time.

I had the same problem as it turned out the 93 octane fuel from Mobil was not 93 Octane. I tried different Mobil stations with the same result. I switched to Sunoco 94 and the car ran better than ever. I have not seen 94 octane fuel lately but the Sunoco's 93 runs good too.

Thanks for the info. I've been running Shell and BP/Amoco premium in mine for quite some time now.

Good to hear. As a fellow Z owner I like seeing people take good care of their Z's. Not everyone abides by the premium fuel requirement for these cars. Steve T probably has it right....if it's a recent problem, the last tank of gas you bought probably was bad. If you think it's something aside from the fuel, a good place to start is to run the ECU diagnostics and see if you get any codes.

Have you checked your computer codes? The knock sensor or affiliated wiring may be at fault. The knock sensor is supposed to send a signal to the eccu, which then would retard the spark enough to stop the "ping".
