Skyline GTS Speedometer

I don't suppose anyone out there knows what the output range of the speed transducer for a Skyline should be? I have been asked to look at a friend's skyline, because his speedo works fine until it reaches 40mph, then it falls to zero.

I have removed the transducer from the car and hooked it up to an electric drill. It appears to generate an AC voltage which increases with speed until it reaches about 12.6V (which is at a couple of thousand rpm), at which point the output falls to zero. Whilst this appears to show the transducer as faulty, I can't help wondering if it's a red herring. It doesn't seem right that at 100mph, the speedo would be seeing a signal of

30V.

I am more inclined to think that there is a bad connection somewhere else - unless anyone can advise me
