1992 Nissan Maxima Timing Belt and water pump inquiry

Hi All,

Well first off.......I have a 1992 Nissan Maxima GXE automatic............139,000km on it. I bought this car from an elderly lady.....at 117,700 km.............I love it!

I got all the service records for her but I can't see anything for timing belt replacement..............

I called a Nissan dealer and they suggested while doing the timing belt to do also the water pump. I have heard this and agree. Now I can get a jobber water pump fairly cheap.........$40Cdn + taxes.........compared to over $104cdn+taxes at the dealer...............the parts guy at the dealer said better to go with a "new" nissan water pump cause jobbers are not reliable...........

Does anyone have experience with this???? Same kinda deal for the timing belt..........I am getting it for 1/3 of the price..............

Please anyone who can tell me whether it's ok to go jobber or better to go dealer.........I would appreciate the help..................

Thanks

the nissan parts are of better quality and the marks on the timing belt are guarenteed to be in the right place as compared to the aftermarket ones where the marks can be in the wrong spot.
