Anyone ever heard of this problem?

Hello,

Vehicle: 93 Nissan Crapfinder

Problem: When putting the car in drive or reverse the motor will sometimes die. Some people have told me it may be a problem with the torque converter.

Not really sure how a torque converter works but can anyone suggest a solution for this problem short of replacing the torque converter? Maybe synthetic trans fluid? Change the filter?

Doubtful

Maybe take it to someone familiar with Nissan products that has the ability and diagnostic tools to correctly diagnose the problem?

has nothing to do with torque converter. In the worst case scenario it would be Timing

Check the electrical. Make sure all the sensors are working/sending the right signals. Also make sure there is no back pressure in the exhaust. Back pressure will not cause the engine to die bit will cause hesitation at higher rpm's

sounds like a weird freak problem
