My 1987 Nissan Sentra recently stopped running at a stop sign. It is a Federal Carbureted model (the last year they had carburetors, I think, here in U.S.) will crank but not start. Rotor turns. It has fuel but no spark. This problem happened before and the electronic distributor and coil were changed and it was fine for about 15 months.
Wires have been traced and checked and there do not appear to be any shorts. Mechanic suggests changing ECC computer. Even from a recycling yard, the cost is quite a bit and I don't even know if a new one is available. I'm willing to purchase a new one but only if I'm pretty sure that will solve the problem.
Is there any way that the computer can be electronically checked for functioning? Also, is it possible that a malfunctioning EGR valve could shut the engine down?
