fan runs constantly

My Pathfinder developed a problem today. The climate control fan runs constantly on high speed. When I set the CC on auto, as the temp cools down inside the car, the display shows the fan is dropping to lower speeds, but the fan is still actually running on high speed. It doesn't matter what setting I use for the climate control, even off. The fan runs on high speed whenever the key is in the on position.

Any ideas on what I should look at first?

Thanks

the a/c auto amp is bad and needs replacing.

some people will tell you that the blower motor resistor is bad but since yours is an auto A/C system it does not use a resistor

Thanks. When I saw your note, I decided that I'd let my dealer do it because I'd probably have to buy the part there anyway. Their diagnosis was a bit different. They tell me that I need a new control unit and a "sun load sensor". They couldn't do the repair today because they didn't have the parts on hand. The estimate is $900!!!

Sooooo, now I'm thinking I'll try to do this myself. Where on the car will I find the a/c auto amp. Is it a plug in part similar to a relay?

The reason they told you that the sun load sensor was bad is because the put the auto A/C system into self diagnosis and read the codes.

All auto A/C systems will display a fault with the sun load sensor is the diagnosis is done under a roof.

The A/C auto amp is located just behind the blower motor

I ordered the part and it arrived today. I have removed the glove compartment and the blower motor. I can't find the amp anywhere. I've looked behind the motor, but I don't see anything that resembles the part that I have. Do I need to remove the blower housing?

Thanks for the help.

I should add that I also checked Alldata. Their diagrams show the a/c amp in two locations in the center of the dash, depending on whether or not you have the navigation system. I don't. The amp is not in either of the locations indicated. Google searches and the forums on edmunds.com didn't have any location information either.
