8k miles ago I put a brand new set of Michelen 265x16 MS tires on. Now, both rear tires are nearly bald. The front look brand new. Since this PF has the 3.3 170 hp motor in it, it doesn't have the power to spin the tires. The tire dealer tells me that 32 pounds of air is over inflated and that is what wore the tires out. But I told him the front tires look new and have the same pressure as the rear so rule that out as a cause. And I said besides, your people put the air in the tires when they installed them and I have not added any air since. So we can rule out over inflation and spinning the tires as cause of early wear. And Michelen will do nothing about it except take a look at the tires and maybe do some tests. My only recourse is the dealer will sell me two new tires at his cost and mount and balance for free. This dealer does a ton of business so I really can't fault them. I have no explaination for the wear. I'm not a kid who likes to burn rubber. And this PF couldn't burn rubber if I wanted it to. I've always had good luck with Michelen tires but I'm not sure if I'm going to buy from them after this crap.

Is there a difference in the recommended f/r pressures ? Sometimes the front has a higher pressure due to the added weight.
a. They didn't necessarily do it right b. If they were leaking or wrong, low pressure might do the same thing
That's a pretty good deal, but be sure to find out what his "cost" is. You still might be able to do better at a tire dealer like NTB.
Hmmm. Might be worth letting them look at the tires. They might be able to help out. It can't hurt. 8K is not many miles, that's for sure.

40,000 miles on a 1999.5. The drive tire was bald but not worn oddly. The edges on each side for about 75mm still had a tiny amount of tread. Wear was like the tire was overinflated and overly spun while the vehicle was stationary. The rear driver side tire was worn smoothly across the tire to about 3mm. The fron tires looked virtually brand new.
You mention rear bushings. As a mtter of fact I do get a funny noise from back like metal moving in hardend rubber. And you can almost feel it. This is heard and felt while accelerating over an imperfection in the road maybe 20mm deep, 50mm wide and spanning at leat the entire lane.
Is your PF a 4 wheel drive model. If not disregard this reply.

Not locked in 4x4. Doesn't drive funny in reverse or forward.
