the 2004 and below. I would think you are best off going for the 2005.
It is possible to sometimes find a very good deal for a used 2006. There are people who lease or buy these types of vehicles, and then find that they don't like them.
Overall, in my personal view, I found the X-Terra to be very good.

The 3.3L is underpowered for the weight of that vehicle. They are slow and get poor fuel economy IMO. It's reliable enough though. It depends on what's important to you. A 3.5L Pathfinder would be a better choice, but again they are hungry at the pump.
