Altima 2001 Directional Signals

When turning on directional signal (either right or left) it goes on, most of the time, but for a few clicks then stops. Obviously something is wrong
so would like knowledgeable person to say what's wrong and cost if possible. Thank you

By stops, do you mean the lever pops back to off, or that it electronically stops? If the lever is popping back by itself, then you need a new one.
If it is stopping electronically (lever is still locked in the turn position, but it just stops flashing), then you have a bad flasher unit, or one of the bulbs is going bad, or there is a bad/corroded ground connection somewhere. Start with the flasher, which should be plugged into one of the fuse boxes.
