I just bought a 96 SE with a manual tranny today for 500.00 $ Wooooo Hooooo !!!

Oh and now the bad news, the tranny is in poor shape.

but the good news is all it needs are the main shaft and counter shaft bearings and the first and second gear syncro's

all that will only cost me around 150.00 $ . YES !!!

and another 150.00 $ for a new clutch assembly and I'm in business.

And then I intend to sell it for around 5K

It's great to live in America, aint it !

Oh my gosh, how did you come across that? Man, if that was me, I would be a

3-Maxima-owning-fool. Congratulations!

Thanks, I saw it sitting on someone's carport in my neighborhood, the thing just sat there. It never moved.

So I walked up to the door and asked the guy/kid what was wrong with the Max, the kid said he blew up the tranny racing it against his friends.

I told him I would give him 500 bucks, he said 700 I said no thanks you can keep it for that.

as I was walking to my truck he yelled, "you got cash" , and I said "I'll be back in 5 minutes"

You know what, I am glad that you told me that. In the complex where my girlfriend lives, a guy has a 3rd gen Maxima similar to my two. This car has been sitting in the same spot for--easily--over a year. I am thinking that the tranny blew up (mine did in my '94 GXE). I think I will do as you did and knock on his door and offer him $500.00. If for nothing else, it could be a cann (a term we use in AF aircraft maintenance world for "cannibalization") car for my other two 3rd gens.

Well, you are a better negotiator than me. I would have given him a quick $700.00 for a '96 SE. Tranny or no tranny. Again, congratulations!
