1993 s-10 clutch issue

Guys and Gals,

Recently my 1993 s-10 2wd v6 2.8l munched the throw out bearing on the way to work. A quick history: the entire clutch assembly including the throw out bearing was replaced at 103k which was original. The new parts have less than 25k miles on them. The mechanic who is doing the work says oil was leaking from the tranny into the clutch area which caused the problem. He wants to replace the entire clutch because assembly because it's been sacrificed due to oil, replace the seals between tranny and clutch to fix problem cause, and he says the sleeve the throw out bearing rides on has been damaged and needs repair, which will require a new sleeve or a new shaft and sleeve together. My brother who worked as a mechanic years ago (not ase certified or anything) says there isn't a need for new clutch plates or pressure plates (because the clutch wasn't slipping prior to incident), to just replace the seals, throw out bearing/shaft and get rid of the mechanic after this. What do any pro - mechanics think? Please help, I really just want this truck to last another year or two, but don't want this guy taking me for a ride, just to cover his own installation mistakes. Also, when he replaced the original clutch, they ripped the exhaust pipe out of the muffler and I had to put a new muffler in immediately following the service (they didn't admit it, but anyone could put 2 and 2 together), who knows though could have been rusted through and only required a small tap, but there were not leaks when I brought it in.

TIA Jarad

Go with your brother's recommendations, and when/if it blows up again, or if it doesn't work properly, or slips...etc.... you can just blame him for the problems.

So you think the mechanic is on the up and up? Hard to read through your sinicism or are just running your pie hole because you have nothing better to do? FYI, I have a long history with this mechanic spanning about 8 years and 4 cars but recently (the last 3 years or so) his work has gone down hill, hence why I offered the muffler story which is one of several.

Don't I know that... but I only let him get 2 bad jobs in. He left a sleeper in my 88' S10 and failed to do a diagnosis (at all) on my 72' malibu.

You've pretty much proven your either just a Troll or an Idiot by the comments you made to Ian, ........and the fact that you admit using the guy after you've had bad experiences for

3 years running.

I've got a question for you......

What's the chances that the poor rip-off, slob of a tech......recomended all this on the first go around???

and YOU declined the recomended repairs???

?????????????????????
