Transponder Key Programming ?

Just got a 2001 Max,private deal, and found out that it has a trans. key.My local upstate ny dealer tells me it takes about 30 minutes and will cost me 100.00 bucks.Another hundred for the remote key fob.Is this about average or are they overcharging me.BTW I have had a less than perfect relationship with these people in the past in regards to them doing warranty work on my 94 Max. Can anyone offer some advice on this subject? You guys have always been great and your help is always appreciated.

EBay is your friend. :-) You can routinely pick up used, but working, fobs for under $20 and program them yourself. You can buy the keys from places like Courtesy Nissan for about $40 - $50, but most dealers do charge around $30 to program it so $100 isn't way off base. Don't know if you can program the key yourself, but if you can, I'm sure there will be instructions on how to do so on maxima.org.

I think $49 is the list price from any dealer.

Bring all your keys with you when you go. $35 is typical and covers one or more keys.

Nope.

The built in chip security is a wonderful thing in terms of anti-theft - but costs you when you need a key.
