I replaced the front caliper as it was sticking.... and i put it in for an MOT....
It failed on 2 front flexi brake hoses... and one of the rear brakes was binding :-)
Very happy.. for an old 92 car...

Hello,
Not kidding ? You change a front caliper & you ain't able to see a worn hose near ? My '93 205 took its MOT last year, no problem. I just brought for a MOT my brother's '91 DTurbo, took it, no problem :-)

my sentiments exactly, he would have had to undo the worn / perished hose in order to replace the caliper. DIY repairs can be dangerous in the wrong hands. steve
What are you on about.. i didnt do any of the repairs.... the front caliper was change by a pug dealer.. i just ordered the part as i get them trade...? I never said anywhere that i changed it... i was going to but i didnt have a spanner or socket that fitted the claiper nut...? If anything the guy that worked @ pug should of seen it as i took it to a different center for the MOT.... !!! Unless he thought it was worth a try to see if it would pass as it was... or he damageded it himself..?
But i never touched it !! STEVE
Hello Steve,
Read your post, I took you changed it yourself.

Anyhow im having someone fit my lower strut brace on Monday.. i may sneak a small picture on here
wow, seem to have hit a raw nerv there, well my appologies for assuming you were responsible, i guess knowing now that even main dealers can and often do miss important items i guess you are concerned what else might have been missed. didnt mean to offend you at all though, i should point out that i have seen my fair share of wanabe mechanics who sometimes do more harm than good when attempting DIY repairs. and when it comes to brakes, well its suprising what some people think they can get away with. the one thing on the car thats always taken for granted.
you won't be flavour of the month, binaries tend to get flamed in non binary groups..at your own peril. steve.
Thanks Steve, i got my car back this morning, and the guy fitted my lower strut brace..... My car is coming along nicely now.
I`m ok at fixing my bikes as its what i grew up doing, my father used to own around 4-5 workshops in the south and he himself was a V.G mechanic.. he wouldn`t go home till it was correct.. sadly he no longer fixes cars.. not even mine :-( He had 3 heart attacks and took that as a sign to take it easy :-) I have found one mechanic in my local town that owns and love his 1.9 205 GTI... i think he can have my car in future. It`s sad to think that you pay the extra for main dealer ships service and you end up with a 1/2 done job... Still i`ve learnt my lesson.. I`ve got some ideas as to what extra i do to my car... i dont go into big stereo`s or lights just a nice street sleeper. I`ve had fitted a pipercross induction kit, bosil exhaust ( proper one for the GTi ) nice and sporty but not with a 5" tail pipe... i`ve had spax springs fitted to the front.. upper and lower front OMP strut braces.. 15" alloys with Yokohama A359. I`ve put a half leather interior in, ..... I`m thinking about rear disc converstion.. and polly bushes.. and maybe new shocks, although mine arn`t old... maybe adjustables.. i just want a sweet handl`ing car which i almost have..
Any tips advice, clubs etc etc.. would be greatfull....
Maybe someone that does sump gaurds...
Thanks Newsgroup
As for pictures, i will post them with a URL ok !!
Hello,
Considering the 1.9GTi, I guess the settings (both engine & chassis) was good for a car which was designed around '87. I'd even say there were brilliant settings. Just keep in mind you've got a 130HP bullet firing a
900kg car. Same thing with the 1.6, just with 105 or 115HP (OK, perhaps you've got the PTS engine kit, 125HP-great HPs !).Regards, G.T snipped-for-privacy@worldonline.fr
