406 fuel gague

has been very erratic, all over the >place. any thoughts?

Bad connection somewhere, or a dodger level sender in the tank i'd imagine.

Is it hard to fit? Part expensive? Mine is doing it as well....

cant remember price but its accessed under the back seat there is a cover which you have to drill off (rivets) and then a plastic bung on later models the hole is too small for the sensor to come out through though its up to you if you employ tin shears or drop the tank

I've got a similar problem on my Pug 306 1.4XN (1997), the fuel gauge only seems to work with certain petrol levels, on other levels (including a completely full tank) it just gives the orange warning light and the needle is completely to the left (it moves to the first marking when I start the engine), my guess is that the sensor is buggered too (or maybe dirty or something, i've driven with a half full tank for quite a long time).

@Mindwipe: can you remember if it is hard to replace the sensor on a PhaseII
