tha pump of my 406 HDi is packing up, it makes a whining noise, and it leaks fuel.
Only hope is that it just might be the stop solenoid, but i'm afraid i'm due for a new/revised pump
anyone any comments or tips?

Those will be the fuel lift pump which fits in the tank.
However, it is possible that there are cheaper places to get the high pressure pumps than Peugeot. Try some diesel injection specialists. Listed in Yellow Pages.

You can't be wrong, IIRC the lift pump is an immerged type, into the fuel tank.

I meant before he buys the wrong pump, not that he might have identified the wrong one.
unfortunately they didn't have one, fitted a brand spanking new one today....
