Up preformance

Hi again, A less urgent question but, I was wondering if anyone knows of something I can do to my 2.1td 406(97) to make it preform better. It's quite nippy but could be better. It's a bit of a slug in 1st gear which I know is the norm with diesels. Any tips? Kind regards Simon

Have a look at EastCoast Racing. Little box of tricks that sits in the middle of the cables to the injectors. Four cable inlets- that's where the injectors leads go. Four cables out the injectors. Takes ten minutes to fit and adds up to 27bhp. Has boosted my Xantia 90hdi acceleration to at least equivalent to a two litre petrol. Dropped fuel economy from 49 to 45mpg. Maybe that's due to having more fun. Downside-...£370. daveK.

Wont work on your 406, however, as its mechanical injection timing as opposed to electronic injection timing in the newer HDi engines. The only real way to get any extra power out of the mechanical timed injection engines like yours is to 'wind up' the turbo, and then increase the fueling on the fuel pump.

This site explains it in a more detailed way, although on a 306 dturbo, the principle is the same:

fly by wire on his i believe early lucas system check me on this nigel please

Hi Jeff,

What do you mean by "fly by wire" ?

I haven't checked out the site yet, but these are just Lucas DPC systems... eh eh not really up to date I agree, but still does the job (and is a pain in the ass to remove on early PSA's TD).
