2000 Grand Am CD Player/Radio issue

This past winter, when it got really cold outside...my CD player quit working. I noticed this problem just a few times over the past year...but it was always a one time issue, now the CD player just doesn't work. When I put in a CD, I get an Error code (forget the number) and the CD player ejects the CD. This is for MP3 CDs and store CDs. Every once in a while it might work. I am thinking this has something to do with the laser not being able to recognize it's a CD? Could the laser glass cover just be dirty? Anyways, does anyone know of a place on-line where I could buy a used CD player to swap out with the current one I have? Basically a place that deals with used factory equipment?

Yea. Our local dealers want $90 to just 'check it out.' Whatever. It is a hell of a lot cheaper to just swap out another radio. Once it gets warmer outside I might call around to some junk yards and go hunting.

Ryan...

The dealer isnt the only place to get it fixed. I work at a car audio shop that repairs OE radios. A repair of your radio would cost around 130 ish and thats fixed right, with a one year warranty.

If you find a junk yard radio, and it doesnt work, they most likely wont return it, as its an electrical part. you would be wasting your time and money.

Do want you want, and good luck.

An audio repair shop had my radio for 3 months an one day to repair a cassette problem.

Not a fun 91 days !

Won't be dealing with A & G Radio anymore.

Initially they tell their customers 10 days to two weeks for repairs. This like the only car repair place in town. I guess the parts come from Mexico. Thats where the radio was made & assembled at.

Of coure when I went in after a month they said they had it all apart and couldn't give it back to me to use while the parts were on order. I doubt it was even in pieces. They probably just order a kit that comes with a variety of parts that are normal replaced after a period of time.

After a month I was told then, about two weeks. Everytime you called you were told, about two weeks.

Luckily I got it back right before Labor Day weekend. I think I went to NY that weekend.
