2001 sunfire engine

Hi,

I bought my daughter a new Sunfire in 2001 for her to use for college, etc. I bought her the 5/60k extended GM warantee. People have told me that the engine in this car is crap and will fail shortly after the warantee runs out. I know nothing about this engine as I tend to buy the larger cars with V-6 engines. Can anybody advise me on this engine? Thanks.

If it's the 2.2l motor, it will lasta long time WITH normal main.

Don't they all new stuff to start having problems after the warrenty is over. Look at washer's and dryers from 1970's most of them probably can still be used, yet a w/d that is only 5 years old can go out and cost more to fix than what it is worth.

Look at Toyota Car's VS. American car's. Most toyota's can last forever (200,000 miles plus) when most american cars start having problems at

150,000 miles. even with regular matience.

Example one: I had a 1995 Grand am (i know bad example) with 137000 miles, had so many problems that i sold it for 500 dollars. My mom has a 1991 Toyota Mini Van with 264,000 miles and running. and it is still worth more than my old car if nothing was wrong.

But you already bought the car and warranty! Why would you be concerned now? Keep it for a while or just before the warranty run out then sell it. I have spoken to many Sunfire owners and Cavalier and they are happy with the car. Few people complain just about anything. We have one (2000 model). We never had any problem with it yet. The car has over 70,000 km. We got the brake redone this summer and the parts is cheap.
