'95 Grand Prix Question...

I am being told by a mechanic that when he does my rear brakes (shoes to be replaced - rotors are ok), that he HAS to replace my calipers too.

Any truth to this?

Thanks

Ask him why. Normally if caliphers are not leaking or binding you don,t replace them.

Not that I know of. If there is a specific problem with the rear calipers, like they are siezed or leaking...then yes, you may need new calipers. But if they retract properly and aren't leaking, and you don't have any wierd pad wear (like one pad worn completely out, while the other pads are like new....or one set of pads worn out prematurely) there is no reason to have to install new calipers.

Can you say "upsell"?

Thanks Ian and Jim,

He has told me that they HAVE to be changed every time the pads are. I think "Upsell" is definitely the word to use here. That was my thought right from the start.

Appreciate the confirmation. Time to find me a new garage! :)
