I think that my fuel pump is going. The problem is that when I get it started it runs for about 5 seconds then shudders and stalls. If can get it started, I will drive for a few minutes and then when I press on the gas I get no acceleration. If I pump the gas while driving I am able to accelerate, slowly.
I got a quote from Canadian Tire and they told me that the fuel pump alone would be like $500 not including labor. It this right? It seems very high.

Husbands 97 Sunfire fuel pump totalled $1100 at the dealer
The fuel filter, plugs and wires were all changed in Nov 2006, so just over a month. I think I can safely say that this is not the problem. $1,100 just for the fuel pump? WOW that is a lot. Could this just be because it was done at a dealership VS a private mechanic?

Some of the newer modular pump/sender units are $500 just for the part, I can't speak to labor without the guide.
