Is there a way to test or repair gear selector switch? Also for replacement, is it simple by mark the tab of the switch position on the crankcase then drop in the new switch?

Yes. Use your ohmmeter to test. Maybe you can fix it, maybe not. Take it apart and see. It only goes on one way... I suppose you could put it on upside down, but that would require some effort.
