Yea, that's what my neighbor did with his LeSabre....lights on all the time. He and his wife say that creates a problem with "uncomfortable" heat from the indicator lights in the steering wheel on long trips though.

The factory plastic O-ringed aluminum core radiator in my '84 T/A is doing just fine after 21 years. I even went 5 or 6 years on the coolant. Oops!

Look for the sensor on the dash (if there is one in '05) and cover it up.
IME, most radiators that you find in cars today have plastic ends on them and are undersized. It's not uncommon for them to only last a handful of years depending upon where you live. (though I suspect that I live in a desert has a bit to do with it :) )
rental doesn't necessarily = abuse. Esp that model. Hardly the type of car that would be rented by kids.
As for DRL... Ignore them, they'll be fine.
I bought an old ex-rental Pontiac Firefly beater years ago Paid $390 drove it for 20K problem free (It already had 290KMS on it) sold it for $450.
