Stopped working

Any fuses or relays to check before I pull the fan out?

Thanks

fan relay. motor is more likely bad though. Also could be a bad temp sensor or ECM. GW

compartment, passenger side, rear, top. This is for a 1994 Grand Am, but most probably yours is in the same place.I'd check the motor first, though.Unplug the fan motor connector, start the engine, turn the AC on and check with a test light or a multimeter for 12V at the connector. If yes, then your fan motor is bad.Svilen

Are there any fuses under the hood?

There is no dedicated fuse for the cooling fan only. If the fuse is blown you will know, because a bunch of other stuff will not be working either. The fan is operated directly by the computer, through the relay. This is from Alldata: =========== The PCM controls engine cooling fan operation through a relay. The fan only operates when needed. The relay get constant battery voltage, and is energized when the PCM completes the relay coil circuit to ground. The PCM will operate the cooling fan under any of the following conditions:

  • A/C is requested and vehicle speed is less than 70 mph (113 km/h). * Engine coolant temperature is greater than 226°F (108°C) with A/C "ON" or "OFF". * A/C refrigerant high side pressure greater than 185 psi (1275 kPa). * PCM is in backup mode. * Diagnostic trouble code 14, 15 or 70 is set. ============

Are you sure you are testing for power at the relay correctly? Here's an article that might help:

A simple test would be to hold the relay while an assistant turns the AC on and off. If the relay clicks, then your problem is the fan motor, or (unlikely) the wiring to it. Pull that fan out and test it -- there's only one bolt that holds it. It's a little unwieldy to get out, can't remember if I had to remove the battery to make more room. Good luck. Svilen

N, there's a fusible link. Can't remember if they were all still by the starter that year. GW
