i have an 03 VibeGT, i also race it, i have 36k on it and all oem parts still. original clutch and everything. only thing i got done was resurfaced the rotors in front. as for the base vibes...they do have some problems with wear n tear parts going out faster than usual, guess what though, you can put a 6 speed gt tranny in the bases. it is a 1zz-fe engine ALL TOYOTA PARTS ON ALL VIBES!!! order parts from TRD and call it a day. dont put gm parts into it if its a wear n tear part. as a matter of fact. you can get a turbo for the 1zz engines from c2power or greddy brings it to 241hp. however, trd has an ALL engine upgrade kit for the GT/XRS for about $3k and it puts the stock 11.5:1 compression ratio to 13.0, and horsepower from 180 (03 models only) to 225-235.
just remember this when you look for parts... Base models engine code is 1zz-FE gt/xrs models are 2zz-GE
