Stange Problem

Hi Group,

I am hoping some of you can help me out with this small problem. I have a

1997 Pontiac Grand Am se 2.4L with 134K on the motor.

Problem:

When the TAC hits about 3G's it begins to sputter almost like it get to much gas and begins to choke. The car does not stall but it seems as if the motor gets to a certain RPM and speed this happens.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Check the TPS, fuel filter, and fuel rail pressure.

if you are doing this sitting still in a free rev .. this is normal .. you are up against the fuel cut off program to protect the engine from over revving

if this happens while driving i would look for a fuel restriction.. possible fuel filter .. or fuel regulator

good luck

I had the exact thing happen on a 3.1 94 Grand Prix. I had changed out my plugs and all wires checked out good. Took it to the shop and he checked out coil packs. Didn't fix it. He tried everything!

I took it home and by chance vented the anti freeze at a point over cylinder 1 and a huge spark bapped me. I had a crack in the porceline of just one spark plug. Hair line crack on newly installed plug. Don't know how it happened but it was an instant fix.
