Hi Group,
I have a 97 grand am se 2.4L. If I hold down the gas pedal till the tac reaches 4000 rpm (Car is in park position) and the engine cuts in and out but the car does not stall. Any ideas what this might be?
Thanks in advance

A rev limiter to keep you from doing harm to the engine when it is not under load.
This also hapens when I drive as well.
Well, which is it?
When it's in Park, it's probably the rev limiter. When you're driving, the only time the engine should stutter or cut out is if you have the Traction Control turned on and one of the wheels spins on water or ice. Then TC cuts in and reduces power to one wheel. Try turning off the Traction Control and see if it still cuts out.
