I have a 2000 Grand Prix...what is the proper way to check the automatic Transmission fluid level?

What is the proper way to check the trans fluid level ?
Engine warmed up. Car in Park and running. Parked on Level ground. Check oil level on dipstick. Level should be in the IXXXI area on the dipstick.
Add as needed.
