Transmission trouble 2000 ES 300

Hi. I have a 2000 ES300 with 88K and the transmission is acting very stange. It doesn't change gears rieght away and I just tried to put it in reverse and it wouldn't catch at all until, it was like it was in neutral. It finally caught as if nothing was wrong. If I am driving along it does good unless I push the gears. Anybody exerienced this, it sounds like I need a new Tranny? Thanx for your input, Brendan

Check the condition and quantity of the automatic transmission fluid. Check with the transmission warmed up, parking brake set, transmission in park, vehicle parked on level ground., The fluid should be red, not brown or black and be up to the "hot" mark on the dip stick. If not, have the transmission fluid changed.

Can you trade it for a newer model? The 2000 ES300 has a well known tranny problem. There is a little white ball that rolls around while you change gears or something like that. What happens is that it gets flattened or gracks or something and then the tranny starts packing up to leave for somewhere else. A good tranny guy can probably fix it for $1800 US or so, but hey - just trade it!

"well known"? This is the first time I've ever even heard of any tranny problem with the 00. Do you have any reference? I'd like to read up on this.

We have an 00 with 80k on the odo and haven't had any problems with the tranny. And if we do, I hope it craps out before the 100k mark and our CPO warranty runs out.

first year ES 300 which was the next year after the ES250. 250 was out for only one year and then in came the 300. And that first year was the one which had this little white ball problem. Sorry !!!! Wife currently has the 2000 and had the first 300. Sorry about the mix up. Have not heard about any problem with the 2000 myself.
