Assembly

Was my 1986 Porsche 944 assembled in Stuttgart Germany, or at the Audi plant? Also did they test drive the 944s out on the autobahn to check for problem areas just like they did with the 911s? I think its pretty cool to think my car was once driven on the autobahn by a factory Porsche test driver before it was imported to the US, if they even did that with American models!

Your Porsche was built in Nekarsulm (Spelling is way off) in an old Audi factory that Porsche leased. The Stuttgart plant could not handle the volume of cars being built, so they built them as close as possible to the Stuttgart plant,10 miles south. Once production waned on the 944 series, it's production numbers did not require a whole plant, so most 1991 models were built in Stuttgart.
