How much gas does the twice weekly circuit use?

Is this a known issue for gasoline-powered vehicles in general? If so, it will also be an issue for your Prius. If not, your Prius won't be an exception.

Gasoline will deteriorate over time, so having the fuel sit in the tank for long periods could be a problem. My suggestion would be to use an additive, such as Sta-Bil, which is what I use in my boat for winter storage.

A while back I was reading an article on the Volt, and this was a major issue that GM was trying to deal with: since repeated short trips could be done on electric only, it was possible to go for very long periods on the same tank of gas, which was causing the fuel to break down. (I never heard if they found a solution to this.)

I think there is a bigger risk of not 'warming up' the car over the 6 months. I'd recommend at least one +30 minute trip every other week to make sure the car gets a chance to reach operating temperature.
